Proud Moment

Sunday evening Jackson auditioned for our Children's Christmas Musical. The song he was going to sing was "In Christ Alone" by the Newsboys. Great song but a little out of his range. Being the good parents we are we went ahead and encouraged him and coached him with the song. Though neither of us thought it was a great song for him to sing.

Coming home from church Sunday morning we were listening to the "Wicked" CD and discovered a much more appropriate song for him to sing, "What is This Feeling". He has it down cold, can belt it out and keeps the tune through the whole thing. He sounds great on it! However it wasn't really a "church" song. We decided- who cares and let him sing it anyway!

So he steps up to the microphone says his name and then says "I will be singing Loathing from the musical Wicked". the parents sitting in the room all about swallowed their tongues. And then he starts "Loathing, unadulterated loathing, for your hair, voice, clothing, let's just say I loathe it all. Every little trait however small, makes my very flesh begin to crawl..." He sounded like he was trying out for a big production. He did a fabulous job but it was a little incongruous compared to the "Twinkle Twinkle" and "Away in a Mangers".

Then he does his poem "The Day the Rhino Forgot to Take a Bath" by Jack Prelutsky. He had so much inflection and drama in it. He was so comfortable in front of an audience with a microphone (not sure where he gets that from). He even started joking with the judges. But again compared to the "Humpty Dumpty" poem he sounded like he was auditioning for Broadway.

We were pretty proud of him...he did a great job and ended up with one of the lead parts!
